Villa Bellavista, Buggiano
Via Livornese di Sopra 28, 51011 Borgo a Buggiano, Buggiano (PT), Italy
Villa Bellavista is one of the most remarkable Baroque residences in the Valdinievole. Its present form dates from the late seventeenth century, when the Feroni family commissioned the Tuscan architect Antonio Maria Ferri to create a villa complex whose scale and formal design would express their new social standing.
The building has a rectangular plan with four projecting corner towers, rusticated details and a central portico. Two long avenues organise the approach through the surrounding landscape, while the adjoining Chapel of San Giacinto is distinguished by its dome, lantern and elegant arcaded entrance. The wider complex also includes the former farm and historic park.
Inside, the villa preserves an important decorative programme associated with Pier Dandini and his workshop, including painted ceilings and illusionistic architectural decoration. Giovan Battista Ciceri contributed stucco work to the chapel and principal rooms. These interiors place Villa Bellavista among the most significant examples of Baroque architecture and decoration in this part of Tuscany.
Visitor information: the official local tourism portal currently reports that the villa is undergoing restoration and is closed to the public. The exterior can still be appreciated from the surrounding public approach, but visitors must respect barriers, private areas and all work-site restrictions. Do not enter the grounds or buildings unless an authorised opening has been announced. Check the official website before travelling specifically for access.
