Oasi Dynamo Nature Reserve

A protected corner of the Pistoia Apennines

Oasi Dynamo is a WWF-affiliated nature reserve in the mountains of San Marcello Piteglio. More than 1,000 hectares of woodland, meadows and traditional agricultural land rise towards 1,100 metres above sea level, creating habitat for deer, wolves and a rich variety of Apennine plants and wildlife.

Start at the Visitor Center

The Visitor Center occupies a restored mountain farmhouse at the entrance to the reserve. Its permanent exhibition introduces the landscape, local species and the history of the surrounding mountains. It is also the starting point for many walks, guided hikes, bike tours, nature-photography activities and educational experiences.

Visits must be planned

Most of the reserve is accessible only by prior arrangement and with an Oasi Dynamo nature guide. This protects sensitive habitats and gives visitors a more informed experience. Check the official events calendar or contact the reserve before travelling; do not arrive expecting unrestricted independent access to the trails.

Art, food and slower experiences

The wider complex also includes OCA — Oasy Contemporary Art and Architecture — and Casa Luigi, a restaurant serving Tuscan mountain dishes and local products. The restaurant and arts area have different access arrangements from the protected reserve, so confirm the programme that matches your interests.

Who will enjoy it

Oasi Dynamo is particularly rewarding for families, wildlife enthusiasts, walkers and travellers staying several days in the Pistoia area. Allow at least half a day for a booked activity, and bring suitable footwear, water and layered clothing: mountain conditions can change quickly even in summer.
