Galeotti Palace Civic Museum
2 Piazza di Santo Stefano Pescia
The Galeotti Palace Civic Museum is one of Pescia’s most rewarding cultural discoveries. Housed in the historic Palazzo Galeotti, it combines an art collection rooted in the town and surrounding territory with the atmosphere of a former aristocratic residence.
The museum’s story is closely linked to Leopoldo Galeotti, who left his property to benefit the local community. In 1898 the palace became home to charitable offices, the civic museum and the public library. The collection itself grew from an earlier initiative to gather artworks dispersed among Pescia’s churches and municipal buildings.
Restored rooms on the palace’s main floor display significant works connected with Pescia, including paintings from early twentieth-century collections associated with the Uffizi and pieces illustrating the artistic history of the area. Historic decoration and surviving domestic spaces make the building part of the visit rather than simply a container for the collection.
The museum is particularly well suited to travellers interested in smaller civic collections, Tuscan painting and the relationship between art and local identity. It also pairs naturally with the nearby Libero Andreotti Plaster Cast Gallery, allowing visitors to explore two very different aspects of Pescia’s cultural heritage in the same part of town.
