Libero Andreotti Plaster Cast Gallery
Piazza del Palagio 7, 51017 Pescia (PT), Italy
Set inside Pescia’s medieval Palazzo del Podestà, the Libero Andreotti Plaster Cast Gallery is one of the province’s most rewarding small museums. It preserves the creative process of Libero Andreotti, the Pescia-born sculptor who became an important figure in early twentieth-century Italian art.
The collection brings together roughly 250 sketches, casts, plaster models and fragments. Rather than showing only finished monuments, the museum lets visitors see how an idea moved from an initial study toward works later realised in bronze or marble. Monumental projects occupy the lower level, while more intimate and formally expressive pieces appear upstairs; the artist’s archive adds valuable context to his life and working methods.
The setting is part of the experience. The Palagio was the historic seat of the town’s Podestà, with medieval origins and later alterations. Its tall rooms and historic fabric create a striking dialogue with Andreotti’s pale sculptural forms, making the gallery especially appealing to travellers interested in art, architecture and places beyond Tuscany’s busiest museum circuit.
Practical information. The Municipality of Pescia currently lists opening hours from Thursday to Sunday, 10:00–13:00 and 15:00–18:00; the museum is closed Monday to Wednesday and admission requires a ticket. Hours and access arrangements can change, so check the official website or contact the museum before travelling.
The museum stands in Pescia’s historic centre and pairs naturally with a walk through the old town. Allow about an hour for an unhurried visit, longer if you enjoy preparatory studies and sculpture. Photography rules should be confirmed on arrival.
