Pescia Paper Museum
Via Mammianese Nord 229–231, Pietrabuona, 51017 Pescia (PT), Italy
The Pescia Paper Museum occupies the historic Cartiera Le Carte in Pietrabuona, a remarkable survivor of Tuscany’s paper-making landscape. Paper has been produced in this area since the late fifteenth century, and the museum preserves the knowledge, tools and working environment behind a craft that shaped the Pescia valley for generations.
The eighteenth-century mill produced handmade paper until 1992. Its surviving machinery and industrial spaces help visitors understand the full process, while the collections include moulds, watermark waxes, punches, metal sheets and stamps. The museum also safeguards the extensive Magnani Historical Archive, documenting one of Italy’s best-known paper-making dynasties.
Visits are offered through organised tours, including experiences with the museum director or a master papermaker. The official booking page lists current formats, prices and availability; check it before travelling because access is structured around scheduled visits rather than unrestricted daily entry.
