Larciano Castle and Civic Museum

Piazza Castello, 51036 Larciano Castello, Larciano (PT), Italy

See route

Larciano Castle crowns the medieval village of Larciano Castello on the western slopes of Montalbano. Its walls, keep and tall lookout tower recall the settlement’s strategic role in the defensive network protecting Pistoia and the routes across Valdinievole.

The Civic Archaeological Museum occupies rooms within the castle complex. Its displays bring together finds ranging from prehistory to the modern period, including ceramics, burial material and objects connected with everyday life. Educational reconstructions help place the artefacts in context, while the tower rewards the climb with an expansive view towards the surrounding hills and plain.

Municipal information updated in March 2026 lists free admission. Seasonal opening hours apply: from April through October, Friday 4:00–7:00 pm and weekends or public holidays 9:00 am–noon and 4:00–7:00 pm; winter hours differ. The keep is accessible, but the underground museum rooms and tower have architectural barriers. Confirm current access before setting out.
