It wasn't built for selfies. It was built for going to work. In June 1923, the Ferriere Suspension Bridge was inaugurated, between Mammiano Basso and Popiglio, in the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio. A 227-meter-long walkway, suspended over the Lima stream, it was designed to connect two sides that previously forced workers to walk long distances.
The idea came from Vincenzo Douglas Scotti, director of the Mammiano Basso rolling mill of the Italian Metallurgical Society. Without that bridge, those arriving from Popiglio would have had to travel about 6 kilometers to reach the factory. Today, it makes you dizzy. Back then, it saved time, legs, and effort.
